Children
When working with children, I take an interactive approach. I use flashcards, toys, games, videos, and songs, as well as writing time. Lessons are fun for the kids. They stay engaged in learning English.
Adults
For adults with a good grasp on English, I use an English as a second language approach. This method is similar to what you would experience if you were to attend an American college. We take example situations and work through the various possibilities, such as ordering food, giving directions, shopping, talking on the phone, etc. Each students will have the opportunity to talk in English several times during the lesson. (Since my Japanese is very basic, I recommend that students have a good understanding of English. It will be difficult for me to explain things in Japanese.) (If you are a true beginner, I may not be the best instructor for you.)
Advanced
Working with advanced students is straightforward. All topics are open for discussion. I like to learn about Japanese culture and how it differs from American culture. However, we can talk about anything you are interested in.
Pricing
Children and adults
I charge 1500 yen per hour with a minimum of 2 students per lesson. I reduce my prices slightly if there are more than 2 students per lesson. If I travel to your home (assuming you don’t live in Handa) I add a transportation fee of 500 yen per student per month. The average monthly fee is about 6000 yen. Advanced
I prefer to work with advanced students
on a one on one basis. Therefore, I charge
2000 yen per hour. However, if there were 2 advanced students in the same lesson,
I would reduce my rate to 1500 yen per hour, making the monthly fee 6000 yen
instead of 8000 yen.
